Honda's Rugged Capabilities

Wondering if a Honda vehicle can handle your active lifestyle and recreational driving needs? At Michael Hohl Honda, we proudly deliver high-quality vehicles designed to meet your needs. With Honda's rugged capabilities and advanced systems, it's easy to find a Honda SUV or truck that is ready to handle all your favorite adventures on and off the trail.

Engine Durability and Performance

The engines that power rugged Honda vehicles like the Pilot and Passport offer exceptional power with their V6 engines. They are strong enough to handle towing up to 5,000 pounds and have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they are ready for extreme weather conditions. Honda conducts cold weather testing in Baudette, MN, which can experience bitterly cold winters with temperatures falling as low as negative 26 degrees Fahrenheit. For extreme all-terrain testing, Honda runs their vehicles through the paces in the Mojave Desert.

Intelligent All-Wheel Drive Systems

Honda offers two types of all-wheel drive systems: Real Time AWDâ„¢ and i-VTM4. Here are the highlights:

  • Real Time AWD:
    • Automatically sends power to the rear wheels when slipping is detected with no driver input
    • Improved traction on wet, snowy, or uneven roads by directing power to all four wheels when needed
    • Efficient design that only uses AWD when needed, improving fuel efficiency
    • Pleasant driving experience with smooth transitions between two- and all-wheel drive
  • i-VTM4:
    • Dynamically distributes torque from front to back and side-to-side on the rear wheels
    • Easily handle curves, hills, and slippery roads with real-time, intelligent torque adjustments
    • Enhanced off-roading capabilities over rough terrain, mud, snow, sand, and more
    • Improved driving experience for smooth and confident handling

Torque Vectoring and Variable Road Conditions

Torque Vectoring is an intelligent system that automatically sends more power to the wheels where it is needed most. The system continuously monitors steering, speed, and road conditions in real-time, making tiny adjustments instantaneously. For example, more torque is directed to the outer rear wheel during a turn. Torque Vectoring offers numerous improvements and benefits in a wide range of driving situations:

  • Safely Tackle Wet or Snowy Roads
  • Easily Handle Unpaved Roads
  • Excellent Handling on Mud Roads
  • Improved Dry Weather Handling
  • Easier Turning
  • Increased Stability
  • Improved Response and Engaging Driving
