When it comes to SUVs, we love taking them off the highway. Somewhere on a gravel or dirt road, give it a little dust, and find new ways to enjoy them. Honda now offers four TrailSport models that will give you permission to explore beyond the highway. The latest one is the 2026 CR-V Hybrid – a brand-new take on our best-selling SUV.

The 2026 CR-V TrailSport Hybrid is not the only hybrid SUV that can play up in the Sierras. Toyota’s newest 2026 RAV4 has a trim called the Woodland. It, too, was designed to play on the dirt and gravel.

Autoblog got the chance to pit our 2026 CR-V TrailSport Hybrid against the 2026 RAV4 Woodland. Before we find out which rugged SUV they prefer, let’s dive deeper into the 2026 CR-V TrailSport Hybrid.

2026 Honda CRV TrailSport Hybrid Interior

Just like all 2026 CR-V models, it offers a large cabin with excellent cargo space for its size class. With up to 71.8 cubic feet with the second-row seats down, there is more than enough room to load it up for camping trips and ski runs. Plus, the TrailSport has loads of comfortable room for up to five people.

What makes the TrailSport stand out goes beyond the badges on the outside and stitching inside. There is 8.2 inches of ground clearance to handle rugged, uneven trails, and a set of beefy stabilizer bars front and back to control the vehicle’s suspension. Keeping the 2026 CR-V TrailSport Hybrid on the surface is a set of all-terrain tires mounted on tough-looking 18-inch alloy wheels. A pair of black roof rails invites you to load up your gear on the roof.

The 2026 CR-V TrailSport Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter hybrid driveline that includes a high-torque traction motor and a generator. Together, they yield a net combined 204 horsepower. Keeping the 2026 CR-V TrailSport Hybrid moving is the standard RealTime All-Wheel Drive with an Intelligent Control System.  You can also select between four drive modes, including snow. This is perfect for those trips up into the Sierras during the ski season.

What about the comparison between Honda and Toyota? According to Autoblog, the 2026 CR-V TrailSport Hybrid offers plenty of advantages. To the editors of the website, it feels “new” to them, while they praised the RealTime AWD system for its components, including a rear differential and a driveshaft instead of a set of electronic components – things that matter to off-road enthusiasts.  They added that the AWD system was “predictive, not reactive.”

In addition to their observations, Autoblog stated that the 2026 CR-V TrailSport Hybrid offered “excellent fuel economy, generous rearseat and trunk space, and pricing,” indicating that our 2026 CR-V TrailSport is the better of the two rugged SUVs.
