Honda Passport TrailSport Stands Out in SUV Comparison

May 15th, 2026 by

SUV shoppers often want a vehicle that feels confident on weekday commutes, weekend getaways, and the occasional trip beyond the pavement. That balance is exactly where the 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport makes a strong case for itself.

In a recent Autoblog comparison with the 2026 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport, the Passport TrailSport showed how Honda has created an SUV that blends rugged capability with everyday comfort. While both models appeal to drivers who want something more adventurous than the average crossover, the Passport TrailSport stands out with smart engineering, a refined driving experience, and thoughtful features designed for real-world use.

Every 2026 Honda Passport is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 285 horsepower, giving it an advantage over the 4Runner TRD Sport’s 278 horsepower. The Passport also pairs that power with a 10-speed automatic transmission that “offers smooth shifts, reflecting the Passport’s ability to excel as a daily driver.”

The TrailSport model adds capability-focused upgrades that support its adventurous personality. Honda equipped it with thinner sway bars for improved wheel articulation, digressive valve-type dampers, and an advanced AWD system that can send up to 70% of torque to the rear wheels. From there, torque vectoring can direct 100% of rear torque to either side, helping improve traction when conditions change.

Drivers also benefit from Trail, Sand, and Snow drive modes, which adjust throttle response, AWD torque distribution, and other settings to suit the terrain. Hill descent control helps manage steep declines, while the available TrailWatch camera system provides four exterior views to improve visibility around the vehicle.

Inside, the Passport TrailSport continues to show its advantages. Rear passengers get 40.9 inches of legroom compared to 34.8 inches in the 4Runner TRD Sport, making the Honda especially appealing for families, road trips, and anyone who regularly carries passengers. The driver also gets a ten-way power-adjustable seat, compared to six-way adjustability in the Toyota.

Technology is another area where the Passport shines. Its 12.3-inch center touchscreen is larger than the 4Runner TRD Sport’s 8.3-inch screen, and the TrailSport includes a nine-speaker audio system compared to the Toyota’s eight speakers. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also come standard, keeping everyday connectivity simple.
