The 2026 Honda Odyssey vs. the Competition

2026 Honda Odyssey vs the Competition

Rumors of the minivan’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Today, more customers (especially growing families) have rediscovered the incredible space, easier access, and versatility that a minivan provides. That includes the 2026 Honda Odyssey, but don’t mistake this for your mother’s old minivan – the Odysessy delivers style, performance, and efficiency in true Honda fashion.

The 2026 Odyssey provides seating for up to eight passengers and, with all seats removed and/or folded, up to a whopping 155.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Honda’s signature 3.5-liter V-6 delivers the perfect blend of power, refinement, and fuel economy to handle whatever task you ask of it, whether it’s a school run, schlepping the team to an early-morning practice, packing the family aboard for a summer road trip, or bringing home a must-have piece of furniture found during a weekend antiquing.

How well does the Honda Odyssey compare to the competition?

2026 Honda Odyssey vs the Toyota Sienna

The hybrid-only Toyota Sienna blends passenger comfort with high efficiency. With seating for up to eight, Sienna offers plenty of interior space for long-distance travel. Sienna also offers you the choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

  • The Odyssey is powered by a V-6 engine that has more horsepower than the net output of Sienna’s hybrid system (280 horsepower vs. 245)
  • Honda’s ten-speed automatic transmission allows for more relaxed ratios on the highway, compared to Toyota’s continuously variable transmission.
  • Third-row passengers will enjoy the space inside the Odyssey with 38.3 inches of headroom compared to Sienna’s 37.4 inches.
  • Front seat occupants enjoy more legroom in the Odyssey over the Sienna (40.9 inches vs 40.3).
  • There is more cargo space behind the third row in the Odyssey with 38.6 cubic feet compared to the Sienna’s 33.5 cubic feet. The Honda has more overall cargo space with 155.8 cubic feet compared to the Toyota’s 101.

2026 Honda Odyssey vs the Kia Carnival

Kia’s entry into the minivan segment is very stylish. Yet, they call it an MPV rather than a minivan. You have a choice of a V6 gasoline engine or a turbocharged hybrid driveline with seating for up to eight people.

  • The Odyssey’s ten-speed automatic transmission allows for more relaxed ratios on the highway, compared to both the Carnival’s eight-speed automatic for the V6 and the Hybrid’s six-speed automatic continuously variable transmission.
  • Kia claims to have more interior space than the Odyssey, but in actuality, Odyssey provides more cargo space behind the second row  of seats (91.0 cubic feet vs 86.9 cubic feet) and with all rear seating removed and folded (155.8 cubic feet vs. 145.1).
  • The base Odyssey LX model rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, whereas the Carnival starts on 17-inch wheels.
  • Carnival’s interior boasts a prominent center console that offers some limited storage beneath its upper surface. Odyssey’s cockpit feels roomier thanks to a svelte center console design, made possible thanks to a compact push-button shifter positioned perfectly within the driver’s reach.
  • Honda Odysseys are assembled in the United States of America at Honda’s manufacturing plant in Lincoln, AL. The Carnival is imported from the Republic of Korea.

2026 Honda Odyssey vs the Chrysler Pacifica

The Pacifica continues the legacy of over four decades of minivan development. For 2027, it is updated with a new exterior front clip on most of its lineup, yet it retains a lot of what Chrysler customers expect. It is only available with a V-6 gasoline engine, along with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

  • The Odyssey’s ten-speed automatic transmission allows for more relaxed ratios on the highway, compared to the Pacifica’s nine-speed automatic.
  • There is more cargo space in the Odyssey than in the Pacifica. From behind the third row (38.6 cubic feet vs 32.3) to the second row (91.0 cubic feet vs 87.5) and overall (155.8 cubic feet vs. 140.5).
  • The entry-level Odyssey LX includes 18-inch wheels as standard equipment. The least expensive Pacifica model makes use of smaller 17-inch wheels instead.
  • Chrysler touts its 2027 Pacifica as “revised,” with a new front clip and rear logo update. However, their LX model wears the same front end as its original dating back to 2017. Every Honda Odyssey looks the same from the LX to the Elite – as handsome as ever.
