Four 2026 Honda Models Earn Top Marks in IIHS Crash Tests

When you purchase a Honda, you get peace of mind. The sense of security that comes with knowing your Honda will save your life. It all starts with the Honda Commitment to Safety. It is our way to engineer and design an automobile that embodies the slogan “Safety for Everyone.” It is rooted in a goal towards ensuring that every Honda will experience zero fatalities by 2050.
That commitment is seen in today’s Honda model. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests every vehicle sold in this country to see how it protects its occupants in a variety of situations encountered on our roadways.
Based on the latest tests, the IIHS awarded its TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards to four 2026 Honda models. The 2026 HR-V and Passport earned the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation. The 2026 Civic Hatchback and Accord took home TOP SAFETY PICK honors.

The IIHS noted that all four Honda models scored the highest marks in its small overlap front crash test, moderate overlap front crash test, and side crash test. All three tests are considered the most rigorous tests available.
One important part of the IIHS crash test evaluation is to examine the driver assistance systems on each vehicle. To meet this challenge, every Honda model comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist technologies. It is made of several key features working together to add a layer of protection for the vehicle and its occupants. These features include Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation incorporating Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Importantly, the 2026 Civic, Accord, HR-V, and Passport were developed with the company’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure. This helps protect occupants from various frontal collisions, along with supplemental restraint systems such as airbags and front seatbelt pretensioners.

Honda has always had a strong track record in crash testing, not just with the IIHS, but also with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s NCAP tests. In fact, every Honda model received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the NHTSA for the 2024 and 2025 model years.
Safety is among the top reasons for choosing a new vehicle. Another one is value. There is no lineup today that offers a greater mix of safety and value than Honda, which is why the slogan “Safety for Everyone” has a deeper meaning here at Michael Hohl Honda.
