Honda Ridgeline vs Toyota Tacoma Comparison

How does the new Honda Ridgeline compare to the Toyota Tacoma?

As one of the premier new Honda dealerships serving drivers from Reno to South Lake Tahoe, we know that drivers from our little corner of the country lead active lifestyles. And whether you're off-roading in the back country or taking your kayaks out to the lake, there's nothing better to have on your side when you're exploring the great outdoors than a new midsize pickup truck. Now, while our new Honda Ridgeline is widely considered one of the most popular new midsize pickups out there, it's not without close competition from models like the new Toyota Tacoma. So, if you're weighing your options with buying or leasing one of these two models, it's important to consider which is the best fit for your lifestyle. And once you've seen our competitive comparison of the new Honda Ridgeline, we think you'll see why it stands out for drivers throughout the greater Carson City, NV area.

Performance

Now, even though both the new Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tacoma are midsize trucks, that doesn't mean that they're middle of the road on power delivery. In fact, then ew Honda Ridgeline excels at delivering on demand power right from the get-go, offering up to 280 horsepower at your disposal, making it great for delivering the passing power you need on the highway near Sparks, NV.

Now, when properly equipped at pricier trim levels, the new Toyota Tacoma can certainly compete with that lofty bar set by the Honda Ridgeline, but entry level trims for the Toyota Tacoma only offer up to 228 horsepower with its turbocharged 2.4-liter engine, leaving a lot to be desired on the road.

Drivability

One of the key differences between the new Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tacoma is the underlying construction. The Toyota Tacoma is a traditional body-on-frame pickup truck, which means that while it can excel in off-road driving, it can feel needlessly stiff and unforgiving for day-to-day driving around Gardnerville. By comparison, the Honda Ridgeline is a unibody pickup truck, which means that while it can hold its own in off-road environments thanks to its i-VTM4® AWD system, the new Honda Ridgeline has a much more SUV-like driving character on the road. So, if you're more accustomed to SUVs and crossovers, making the jump to a truck like the Honda Ridgeline is easier than choosing a Toyota Tacoma.

Versatility

Perhaps one of our favorite features on the new Honda Ridgeline is its Lockable In-Bed Trunk. Whether you're hauling tools and supplies to and from the jobsite that you don't want to expose to the elements or going on a camping adventure outside Minden and need to use the trunk as a cooler on the go with its built-in drain plug, the Lockable In-Bed Trunk is one of the most versatile features on the new Honda Ridgeline. Unfortunately for Toyota Tacoma owners, there's no in-bed trunk on that model, so they'll have to go without.

Interior Amenities

The new Toyota Tacoma is a fine truck in its own right, but it certainly lacks some creature comforts in its base configuration. For example, while the Honda Ridgeline comes standard with tri-zone automatic climate control, the new Toyota Tacoma only offers dual-zone automatic climate control on its top-end Limited trim. Plus, with more overall passenger volume in the new Honda Ridgeline, it's a better fit for Reno area families on the go than the comparatively cramped new Toyota Tacoma.
